Massage – a self nurturing tool for every body.

Self nurturing is a term we hear used quite frequently in our clinic in relation to the realization of better health and in the reduction of pain.

I recently wondered, what does “self nuturing” really mean to the people that we are speaking to, and how is that relevant to remedial massage (other than massage just ‘feeling good’)?

To begin with, what is self nurturing?  Well, the oxford dictionary provides the definition as:

Self – noun –  A person’s essential being that distinguishes them from others

Nurture – verb –

  1. Care for and protect (someone or something) while they are growing.
  2. Help or encourage the development of
  3. Cherish (a hope, belief, or ambition)

The techniques utilised during a remedial massage assists our body’s ability to boost our emotional health by reducing anxiety, stimulating emotional growth and providing a feeling of well being.

This in turn also benefits our mental health by reducing psychological stresses, induce mental relaxation and importantly, promote the quality of our sleep.

Physically, massage works throughout our body to calm our nervous system, lower blood pressure, stretch connective tissue, increase blood and lymph circulation, reduce tension headache, chronic pain and improve our posture.

So with that in mind, when it comes to caring, protecting and developing your essential being, remedial massage really is an incredibly valuable tool suitable to not just somebody.  Everybody!
