The Women's Wellness in Midlife Program

If you are a woman going through the midlife or menopause phase, you can appreciate how unique some of the health challenges can be during this time, and perhaps unlike anything you have experienced before.

Research has revealed that certain lifestyle factors and health behaviours can have a positive impact upon quality of life, chronic disease risk factors and other health areas for midlife women's health. This data has been used by leading health researchers at Griffith University to create a 12-week structured program to help support women through their journey of achieving a healthy lifestyle during midlife and menopause.

The program is the brainchild of Professor Debra Anderson, one of Australia's leading researchers in Women's Health. For more information about the research behind the program go to DAWN.

WHAT DOES MIDLIFE MEAN?

The term midlife generally refers to the ages 45-60 years old. During this time, it is common for many women to experience menopause, and the changes that it involves.

During perimenopause, menopause, and post-menopause (the before, during, and after stages of menopause), it is important to care for your body and mental health. One of the most effective ways to do this is through an educational program.

WHO IS THE PROGRAM FOR?

This program is for women entering the next chapter of their life during the years of menopause or in midlife. Many women find that during these years they have a decrease in physical activity, struggle to eat well, or maintain a healthy lifestyle, often as a response to biological changes.

During the midlife period, many women will have an increased risk of high or low blood pressure, weight gain, heart disease, osteoporosis, or strokes. This program builds the relationship with women and their bodies to help them live a healthy lifestyle.

Some of the benefits of women's midlife program include:

  • Lowered risks of chronic disease
  • Improved mental health
  • Avoid bone density loss
  • Maintain a healthy weight
  • Improve quality of life

What you should know about creatine

What is Creatine? Creatine is a naturally occurring compound found in muscle tissue and the brain. The body naturally produces a small amount of creatine, and we also get it from foods like red meat and seafood. The difficulty lies in reaching high muscle creatine levels through diet alone to fully saturate muscle stores, which is why supplementation is popular. To achieve optimal stores, you’d need to consume roughly a kilogram of beef or fish every single day—an impractical amount that you won’t hear our dietitian recommend!

The Hidden Link: Breast Cancer and Cardiovascular Disease

Breast cancer and cardiovascular disease may seem like two distinct conditions, but many people do not realise that there is a significant link between the two. Essentially, research has shown that women with breast cancer are at a higher risk of developing cardiovascular disease, and vice versa.

Moving Forward: How Exercise Can Support Women with Ovarian Cancer

Ovarian cancer is a life-changing diagnosis, and the treatments that follow—surgery, chemotherapy, or targeted therapies—can take a significant toll on both body and mind. Many women face fatigue, pain, reduced fitness, and changes in mood or confidence. While exercise might not be the first thing that comes to mind during cancer treatment, research now shows that the right kind of movement can be one of the most powerful tools to support recovery and long-term wellbeing.
EDS

Ehlers-Danlos syndromes (EDS) and Exercise

As an Exercise Physiologist, my approach to working with EDS clients begins with understanding the unique challenges they face. One of the hallmark features—joint hypermobility—can cause frequent dislocations or subluxations, poor proprioception (joint awareness), and postural instability. This means standard exercise routines may not only be ineffective but potentially harmful without appropriate modification. The goal…
